title Egyptian priest sentenced to life for raping his wife article The priest who allegedly raped his wife has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping her in the early morning hours of the morning of December 7, 2017.
The Egyptian Orthodox Church (ECOC) is not the only institution to face the wrath of the Egyptian state after its priests were caught raping female worshippers.
According to reports, the case was investigated by Egyptian police but it was never proven the priest raped his victims.
The priest, who has not been named by Egyptian media, was charged with rape after the alleged rape occurred in a private house.
The ECOC, a government-funded organization which oversees the Egyptian Catholic Church, has faced criticism over its treatment of female priests, with the Pope recently calling on the organization to improve its handling of sexual abuse cases.
According a statement from the ECOC website, the church is committed to “a culture of tolerance, respect, and justice for all of God’s children.”
The priest is expected to be released on May 22, 2018, according to the statement.
