A few weeks ago, a couple of Japanese TV networks released episodes of an anime adaptation of the popular manga series Dragonball Z: Battle of Gods.
The story follows a warrior named Goku, who is sent to Earth by his mentor to fight a mysterious alien invasion, and ends up in a place that is almost entirely alien.
The series was inspired by the novel The Dragonball: The Final Chapters by Akira Toriyama, which was published in Japanese in 1996 and translated into English in 2001.
The manga series has sold over 300 million copies worldwide and has been translated into more than 30 languages.
The first season of the anime series premiered in 2017 and has since spawned several spin-offs and spin-off anime series, including Dragonball GT: Supersonic Warriors, Dragonball Super: Super Sonico, Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku, DragonBall Z: Son Goku and the Legendary Super Saiyan, Dragonballs GT: Dragon Team Battle, Dragon Quest: Super Hero Taisen, Dragon Balls: Super Tournament, Dragon Baseball Super: The Legend of Heroes, Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Warrior, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, and Dragon Ball Super: Budokai Tenkaichi 2.
The anime also has a spin-up manga, Dragonic Adventure: Super Adventure Quest.
The Dragon Ball series has also inspired a number of anime films, including the 2015 Dragon Ball: Origins anime film, which is based on Akira Tori (the writer of Dragonball), and the 2017 Dragon Ball TV series, which adapts the story of Akira Torihama’s manga series.
It also spawned a spinoff anime, Dragonbabe Z, which debuted in 2016.
The manga series was adapted into a series of live-action movies, which have been adapted into many animated features.
In the 2017 movie Dragon Ball X: The Motion Picture, which also stars Goku and many of his friends, the characters were reimagined and given a new voice actor.
In 2018, the animated series Dragon Ball Heroes was also released, and in 2019, Dragon-Babe: The Movie.
The 2017 live-actions Dragon Ball video game, Dragon Battle, also starred Goku, and the 2016 anime Dragon Ball G: Battle for Golarion was released.
In addition, Dragon ball: Evolution, Dragon: The Animated Series, and more have all been adapted for the big screen.
A film adaptation of Dragon Ball GT: Super Battle, released in 2018, was a huge hit and received multiple awards, including an Oscar nomination.
The series also inspired two live-fied spinoffs, Dragon Z Kai: Super Saiyan and Dragon Z: Ultimate Warrior, which aired on Netflix in 2018.
Dragonball Z and the Super Hero Mazinger Z manga were also adapted for animated films and feature films.
Dragonball Kai: Ultimate Destruction, Dragonboy: The Power of Battle, and Super Sonic Warrior were all released as animated movies.
The film Dragon Ball Kai: Zesshū Battle Royale was also adapted into several live-motion films, and an anime series based on the manga was also produced.
Dragon Ball Super was adapted for a live-Action feature film in 2017, and it received an Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
In 2017, the series was released as Dragon Ball XY: Super Dimension Fortress Macross.
The movie Dragonball Battle: Hyperdimension Battle Royale also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects.
DragonBall Z has also influenced the spin-Offs of the manga series, such as Dragonball Warriors, a manga series based around a group of heroes who fight evil villains and other villains in a parallel universe.
The anime Dragonball Destiny has also been adapted in several live action features and movies.
Dragon Ball Warriors: The Heroic Legend of Arale has been released on Netflix as a two-part TV series in 2018 and has earned multiple awards.
Dragon Warrior: Legend of the Legendary Heroes was released in 2019.
DragonBattles: The Legendary Super Heroes, a film adaptation starring Goku, was released by Sentai Filmworks in 2018 for Japanese audiences.
The 2018 movie Dragon Warrior Saga was a hit in Japan, and is now available on Netflix.
Dragon Quest: The Animation was a TV anime adaptation for Netflix in 2020.
